Our department currently consists of three Physics teachers, one being part-time, as well as our own technician. The department is very well resourced and our current schemes of work encourage practical aspects in most lessons. The successful applicant will be eager to contribute new and exciting ideas and resources to our friendly and collaborative team.

At GCSE we follow the AQA Physics specification with approximately half of our students opting to take triple science over the combined route. At A level we follow the OCR A specification. We are an innovative department and enjoy creating new resources and experiments for the students to engage with. We take full advantage of the school’s decision to equip all students from year 9 with a Chromebook by creating a digital notes system as well as interactive resources available online.

Currently we run a Physics club which is growing in popularity, this is mostly planned and presented by A-level students with minimal input from teachers. We recently ran a trip to the Cavendish Laboratories and are looking to make this an annual or bi-annual enrichment opportunity.

In addition to this we are hoping to launch a school trip to CERN. We have growing numbers opting to take A-level Physics some of whom, in recent years, have gone to top universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

We are proud that the current delivery of our A level syllabus is encouraging large numbers of students to applying for Physics degrees, has been growing year on year, and is in addition to an already large number of applications for mathematics and engineering programmes.

The successful applicant will be required to teach Physics throughout the school from years 7 to 13, will have the ability to inspire, enrich and motivate very able students and be eager to get involved in an, or begin their own, enrichment activity within Physics or Science. It could also be necessary for the applicant to teach Biology and/or Chemistry to KS3 students.
